Jordan King Abdullah II and Egypt President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi have stressed the need to intensify Arab and international efforts to consolidate the ceasefire in Gaza, as a first step towards regional calm and the inevitable rapid reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.

The two leaders spoke on Monday on the phone and reiterated emphasis on supporting the Palestinian people to obtain their legitimate rights and establish their independent, sovereign state, based on the two-state solution.

A ceasefire deal between Hamas and Israel in the Gaza Strip went into effect on 19 January for 42 days mediated by Egypt, Qatar and the United States. During this period, the two sides will continue talks for the second and third phase of the deal.

The deal has suspended Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza, which led to killing and wounding 159,000 Palestinians, most of them children and women.
