The Syrian presidency has confirmed that a “treacherous terrorist bombing” targeted civilians in Manbij city on Monday, killing 20 people and wounding a number of others. The presidency said on its official Telegram channel that the state will not hesitate “to pursue and hold accountable” those involved.
“This crime will not pass without imposing the most severe of punishments on those responsible,” it insisted. “It will be a lesson to anyone who dares to tamper with Syria’s security or harm its people.”
A car bomb exploded in Manbij, east of Aleppo, on Monday. The initial death toll was believed to be 15, with another 15 wounded, but that toll has risen since the atrocity. Syria TV quoted the Syrian Civil Defence White Helmets as saying that all of the victims were agricultural workers.
Manbij has witnessed seven bombings in 36 days. On Saturday, four civilians were killed, including two children and a woman, and nine others were injured, including four children, some of them seriously, when a car bomb exploded in the city.
