Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa praised Turkiye’s “historic” stance in support of the Syrian people during the years of the Syrian revolution and called for a strategic partnership between the two countries in various fields.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during an official visit to Turkiye yesterday, Al-Sharaa stated that the Syrian people “will never forget Turkey’s historic support” throughout the revolution.

“I extend my gratitude to President Erdogan for this stance. The Syrian people will never forget what Turkiye has done for Syria over the past years,” he added.

Turkiye has provided refuge to a large number of Syrians who fled the oppression of Bashar Al-Assad’s regime following the outbreak of the revolution in March 2011. It has also taken a firm stance in support of the Syrian people while rejecting violations against them.

Al-Sharaa highlighted the deep historical ties between Syria and Turkiye, noting that “the Syrian revolution and Turkiye’s engagement with it have strengthened these relations.”

Describing the current ties between the two nations as “brotherly and exceptional,” the Syrian president stressed the need to transform them into a “deep strategic partnership across all sectors.”

In this context, Al-Sharaa invited President Erdogan to visit Syria “at the earliest possible opportunity.”

He also stated that the leaders discussed “the need for international pressure on Israel to withdraw from the buffer zone in southern Syria and to implement the 1974 agreement.”
