US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s plan to ethnically cleanse Palestinians from Gaza and transform the enclave to the “Riveria of the Middle East” threatens peace agreements with Egypt and Jordan, prominent Israeli analyst Zvi Harel warned.

In a lengthy article published by Haaretz, Harel stated that Trump has ignored warnings about the development of conflict zones along the Israel-Egypt border if Gaza residents are resettled there.

Trump is also disregarding warnings about the instability that could topple the regime in Jordan if it is forced to absorb hundreds of thousands of refugees, adding that he fails to recognise the potential impact on the historic peace agreements signed by Egypt and Jordan, which formed the foundation of the “Abraham Accords”.

He warned that while Trump’s plan may reshape the Middle East, as Netanyahu claims, it would do so in a way that contradicts their expectations.

Harel concluded that when Trump tells the world that Egypt and Jordan will accept around two million Gazans because of the aid provided by the United States, he is putting them at a crossroads where they must make an unprecedented decision: choose aid or face instability. Given such a choice, the decision for both nations may not be difficult.

Jordan receives more than $1.5 billion in foreign aid each year from the United States, while Egypt gets $1.3 billion annually in Foreign Military Financing from Washington. Trump has implied this aid may be threatened if either country does not agree to his plan to displace Palestinians from Gaza.
