The UK government said on Thursday that it would adapt its Syria sanctions following the collapse of Bashar Al-Assad’s regime late last year, Reuters has reported. However, it will ensure that asset freezes and travel bans imposed on members of the ousted regime remain in place.
“We are making these changes to support the Syrian people in rebuilding their country and promote security and stability,” said Stephen Doughty, Minister for Europe, North America and overseas territories.
“The Government remains determined to hold Bashar Al-Assad and his associates to account for their actions against the people of Syria.”
