Kuwait has revoked the citizenship of 9,464 individuals, local media reported, citing the country’s official gazette.
Four decrees and two decisions appeared in the country’s official gazette, Kuwait Today, stripping 9,464 individuals of their Kuwaiti citizenship.
The first decree revoked the Kuwaiti citizenship of 5,694 women and those who obtained it through them. The second stripped 38 individuals of their citizenship, while the third revoked it from three people and their dependents.
The fourth decree revoked the citizenship of 3,724 women and their dependents. Meanwhile, two decisions by the Cabinet withdrew nationality certificates from four men and one woman, along with those who obtained citizenship through them.
This is not the first such decision by Kuwaiti authorities as part of an ongoing review of citizenship grants in the country.
On 9 February, Kuwait issued a similar decision to revoke the citizenship of 4,135 women, along with their dependents, after Cabinet approval.
In September 2024, Kuwaiti authorities launched a campaign targeting cases of “fraudulent and dual citizenship”, including cases dating back decades.
