Canada will host a G7 meeting of foreign ministers in Quebec’s Charlevoix region from March 12 to 14, under the G7 presidency, the Foreign Ministry announced Wednesday, Anadolu news agency reported.
“Canada is proud to hold the G7 presidency this year. We are committed to working with G7 and other international partners to tackle the most urgent global challenges of our time. This meeting will be an opportunity to advance peace, security and prosperity worldwide,” Foreign Minister Melanie Joly said in a statement.
Noting that the meeting will address “pressing global challenges together and strengthen international cooperation,” it said that key topics will include support for Ukraine amid its war with Russia, as well as peace and security challenges in the Middle East, Africa and the Americas.
“The meeting will also address significant issues in the Americas, including the ongoing crises in Haiti and Venezuela, as well as peace and security challenges in Africa, particularly in Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo,” it added.
The G7 foreign ministers will further discuss broader themes affecting global security and economic stability, including the interconnectedness of Indo-Pacific and Euro-Atlantic security.
The G7 is an informal forum that brings together Italy, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the UK and the US.
