An organisation run by a man with dual Israeli–Estonian nationality is behind the recent charter flights taking Palestinians from Gaza through Ramon Airport, Haaretz reported.
The investigation found that the body presenting itself as an association is in fact a front for a consultancy company registered in Estonia.
South Africa’s border authorities said on Friday that dozens of Palestinians who arrived at Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport on Wednesday, after travelling from Kenya, were eventually allowed to enter the country following an initial refusal over entry requirements.
Despite the clearance, President Cyril Ramaphosa said, in remarks carried by the Associated Press, that “the country’s intelligence services are investigating the party behind a charter plane that landed in Johannesburg with more than 150 Palestinians from war-torn Gaza without official travel documents.”
According to Haaretz, the association has been offering Palestinians seats on chartered flights for around USD 2,000, with destinations as far as Indonesia, Malaysia and South Africa.
