The UN Security Council voted in favour of a US-backed resolution on Gaza after midnight on Monday. The plan supports former President Donald Trump’s proposal, which includes a ceasefire, the deployment of an international force to restore order in Gaza, and a path that could lead to a Palestinian state.
Thirteen council members approved the resolution, which US Ambassador to the UN, Mike Waltz, described as “historic and constructive.” Russia and China abstained from the vote, but neither used their veto power.
US President Donald Trump praised the Security Council’s adoption of the resolution, calling it a “a moment of true Historic proportion” and “one of the greatest decisions in United Nations history.” He highlighted that the resolution supports the creation of a “peace council” in Gaza.
