US President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Monday instructing his administration to examine whether certain branches of the Muslim Brotherhood in countries such as Lebanon, Egypt and Jordan should be classified as “foreign terrorist organisations” and “specially designated global terrorists”.
The White House said in its statement that the move aims to address what it described as the organisation’s cross-border network, which it says fuels terrorism and drives destabilising campaigns against US interests and those of its allies in the Middle East.
