US President Donald Trump has said that Syria has made significant progress in a short period and expressed strong confidence in President Ahmed Al-Sharaa.
Speaking to reporters at the White House on Tuesday, Trump was responding to a question about developments in Syria.
“I think Syria has made a lot of progress in a short time. The new leader of Syria, Ahmed Al-Sharaa, was here three weeks ago. He is really keen to rebuild his country and bring people together,” Trump said.
He added that the task was not easy at all, as Syria faced problems that had lasted for hundreds of years, but he believed Al-Sharaa would succeed and said he trusted him a lot.
Trump previously held a private meeting with Al-Sharaa at the White House on 10 November, discussing several issues, including lifting sanctions on Syria and regional matters.
This meeting inside the White House is the first of its kind for a Syrian president.
