Tension hit several Haredi-majority cities in Israel on Sunday night following a series of arrests carried out by special forces.
Young men and religious school students were detained on suspicion of involvement in a security case, with a complete publication ban preventing the release of details.
According to Israeli media, initial reports suggest the case is being handled by the central unit of the West Bank police in coordination with other security agencies.
Witnesses said some people present during the arrests initially thought that the operation was related to the arrest of deserters from military service, but it soon became clear that the operation was connected to a completely different security matter.
It later emerged that the Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court, at the police’s request, issued a full publication ban on the case, which involves serious allegations of “contact with a foreign agent.”
The ban covers all details of the investigation, including the identities of suspects, the number of people involved, the nature of the incidents, and any information that could reveal them.
