Israel is reportedly considering participating in efforts to protect US interests in Gulf states as Iranian attacks in the region intensify amid the ongoing confrontation involving Iran, Israel and the United States.
According to Israel’s public broadcaster Kan 11, discussions are taking place in Tel Aviv about the possibility of assisting in the defence of American assets in the Gulf. An Israeli official quoted in the report said Israel could “help in the American defence effort just as the Americans help in our defence effort”.
The broadcaster said that a potential regional alliance is being discussed that would aim to enhance protection for Gulf states facing missile and drone attacks attributed to Iran. Israeli media reports suggest the proposal is being promoted as part of efforts to broaden the coalition confronting Tehran.
In a separate assessment cited by Kan 11, Israeli security sources claimed that Iran’s air force did not attempt to intercept Israeli aircraft during the initial wave of strikes carried out on Saturday. According to the report, two Iranian fighter jets reportedly took off but headed east and did not engage Israeli planes. The source added that there was “no aerial engagement” and that no surface-to-air missiles were fired.
Meanwhile, Channel 12 reported that the United Arab Emirates is considering taking military steps to counter Iranian attacks. Two sources cited by the broadcaster said Abu Dhabi was examining “active defensive measures” after reportedly facing hundreds of missile and drone launches targeting its territory.
The reports come as tensions continue to escalate across the region, raising the possibility that additional regional powers could become involved in the expanding confrontation with Iran.
