Sudan accuses UAE and Ethiopia of involvement in drone attack on Khartoum airport

Sudan has formally accused the United Arab Emirates and Ethiopia of planning and carrying out a drone attack targeting Khartoum International Airport.

The accusations follow a series of strikes that also targeted residential neighbourhoods and military sites, including the Signal Corps base in Khartoum North and the Al-Muraihat training centre in Omdurman.

At a joint press conference, Sudanese Foreign Minister Mohi El-Din Salem and military spokesperson Assem Awad Abdel Wahab said the government possessed what they described as “conclusive evidence” showing the drones had been launched from Bahir Dar Airport.

According to a statement carried by the Sudanese News Agency [SUNA], Sudan officially announced “the involvement of the United Arab Emirates and Ethiopia in the bombing of Khartoum Airport”.

Officials said Sudan reserves the right to respond “at a time and place of its choosing”.

Military authorities presented technical data they said traced one drone, identified by the serial number S88, to the UAE. Sudanese officials alleged the drone was launched from Ethiopian territory and had previously participated in attacks in the Blue Nile and Kordofan regions before being intercepted near El Obeid in March.

They added that another drone launched from the same facility in Ethiopia entered Sudanese airspace on 1st May and headed towards the capital before being intercepted by air defence systems.
