The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) targeted the electricity substation in the city of Al Dabbah in Sudan’s Northern State, Sudanese authorities said on Wednesday.
Al Dabbah Security Committee said in a statement that the city’s electricity substation had been targeted by the rebel RSF militia, causing a fire at the facility. One security guard suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
The statement said the attack was “systematic” and aimed at civilian infrastructure and essential services used by ordinary people in their daily lives.
It added that such “criminal acts by the rebel militia will not deter us from carrying out our duty to defend this land and its people. Rather, they will make us stronger and more determined until these militias are eradicated so that Sudan can enjoy security and stability.”
Videos shared by activists on social media appeared to show a fire breaking out at the Al Dabbah power station following what they said was a drone attack.
Local media, including Sudan Tribune, reported that Al Dabbah came under a drone attack targeting the electricity substation and several military sites, causing a power outage across the city.
Sudanese authorities, as well as rights groups and organisations, have accused the RSF of targeting civilian facilities. The RSF has not commented on the allegations and says it is working “to protect civilians”.
