Israel isolates detained Palestinian journalist Bushra al-Tawil in Ramle prison

The Palestinian Prisoners’ Club said on Monday that Israeli authorities had transferred Palestinian journalist and detainee Bushra Al-Tawil, 33, from Damon Prison to solitary confinement at Ramle Prison, about six months after her arrest and subsequent placement in administrative detention.

The non-governmental group said in a statement that Al-Tawil, from the city of Al-Bireh, was arrested in February 2026 and later placed in administrative detention. She has previously been detained several times.

Al-Tawil’s experience of detention began in 2011, when she was 18, with most of her previous detentions involving administrative detention, according to the statement.

The Prisoners’ Club said her father, detainee Jamal Al-Tawil, remains in Israeli prisons. He is among the prominent Palestinian detainees who have been repeatedly held in administrative detention over the years.

The statement said Al-Tawil’s family had faced “continuous harassment and targeting”, including repeated raids on their home, as well as deliberate destruction and damage to its contents during the arrests of Bushra and her father.

The journalist has also been repeatedly targeted inside Israel’s Damon Prison, with the Prisoners’ Club saying she had been placed in solitary confinement more than once during her current detention.

The group said Al-Tawil’s treatment was part of “a series of repressive measures imposed on her by the Israeli occupation since her arrest”, reflecting what it described as a continuing pattern of harassment and targeting. 

It added: “Al-Tawil’s transfer to solitary confinement comes amid extremely harsh conditions faced by Palestinian women detainees in the occupation’s prisons.”
