France diesel prices hit record high amid Middle East turmoil

Diesel prices in France reached a new record high on Sunday, according to an analysis by Agence France-Presse (AFP), amid disruptions to global oil supplies caused by the war in the Middle East.

Since the war launched by the United States and Israel against Iran began in February, fuel prices at filling stations around the world have risen sharply, compounded by renewed conflict in Yemen and attacks on energy infrastructure in Saudi Arabia.

At 10.30am (8.30am GMT), the average price of a litre of diesel reached 2.41 euros ($2.76), according to an AFP calculation based on prices listed on the Economy Ministry’s website at more than 8,700 filling stations. The price exceeded the previous record set on Saturday.

The average price of a litre of unleaded 95-octane petrol, the most widely sold petrol in France, was above 2.17 euros on Sunday, based on prices recorded at more than 6,700 filling stations. It has remained above its 2022 peak for more than 10 days.

The average price of a litre of unleaded 98-octane petrol also exceeded 2.28 euros on Sunday, based on prices recorded at more than 6,800 filling stations.
