Sudanese army chief backs Yemen’s government forces against Houthis

Sudan’s Chief of Staff, Yasser Al-Atta, has reaffirmed Khartoum’s support for Yemen’s government forces in their fight against the Houthi group.

In a message of solidarity to Yemen’s Chief of Staff Sagheer bin Aziz, Al-Atta said Sudan, “its leadership and people, stands alongside the Yemeni armed forces with all it has, in all fields and at international and regional forums”, according to the Yemeni Armed Forces Media Centre.

“The threat is one, the tools are one, and the response must be united and firm,” Al-Atta said, expressing confidence that the Yemeni armed forces, through their resilience, experience and sacrifices, could confront the Houthis and thwart what he described as a project to dismantle the unified Yemeni state.

He said Sudan supports the efforts to defeat what he called “Houthi aggression” and to preserve Yemen’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
