Hamas political bureau member Basem Naim on Wednesday rejected a statement issued by the Peace Council marking the third anniversary of the 7th October 2023 attack, describing it as “racist, biased, and rejected in both form and substance.”
In a post on X, Naim said the statement was inappropriate for an institution representing international will, laws and resolutions.
He also argued that the council’s language did not contribute to establishing peace, stability and prosperity in the region.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Peace Council published a statement on its official X account marking the third anniversary of the 7th October attack, emphasising Israel’s security as a central requirement for lasting peace.

“Israel’s true and lasting security is the foundation upon which any peace must be built, and constitutes the surest guarantee against a recurrence of the events of October 7,” the council said.
The statement also expressed regret over the “heavy loss of life” and “profound suffering” experienced by Israelis and Palestinians during the war.
Referring to US President Donald Trump’s efforts to secure the return of hostages held in Gaza, the council said Trump had “fulfilled his commitment to the people of Israel.”
The council further stated that the UN Security Council had entrusted it with ensuring that Gaza would not again pose a threat to Israel and with ending what it described as a decades-long cycle of violence linked to Hamas’s actions.
