Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday rejected the return of residents displaced from Tulkarm refugee camp in the occupied West Bank during Israel’s “Iron Wall” military operation launched in January, after an Israeli court ordered a timetable to be set for their return.
Netanyahu described the camp as a “terror stronghold” and praised the Israeli military for carrying out what he called its “cleansing”, in line with his instructions.
In a video filmed near the camp, Netanyahu said: “I heard that someone in the High Court of Justice says a way must be found to return the residents here. These are not residents, they are terrorists.”
On 21 January, the Israeli military launched an operation that displaced tens of thousands of Palestinians from refugee camps in Jenin, Tulkarm and Nur Shams. The vast majority of those displaced have been prevented from returning to their camps.
