Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani warned US President Donald Trump that the ongoing military escalation involving Iran, the United States and Israel could have serious global repercussions.

According to the official Qatar News Agency, the warning came during a telephone conversation on Saturday between the two leaders, which focused on the latest developments in the conflict and efforts to contain the growing regional crisis.

The discussion took place amid continuing Iranian attacks targeting Qatar and other countries in the region, as tensions rose following the outbreak of war between Tehran, Washington and Israel.

During the call, Sheikh Tamim stressed that the escalation could negatively affect international peace and security, urging renewed diplomatic efforts to prevent the situation from deteriorating further.

He also emphasised the importance of containing the crisis through political and diplomatic channels, while affirming that Qatar would defend its sovereignty, security and national interests if necessary.

The Qatari news agency said both Doha and Washington agreed on the importance of supporting political solutions to address the current tensions.

Qatar hosts the largest US military base in the Middle East, and the country has recently been subjected to Iranian missile attacks as the regional confrontation intensifies.
