Morsi might accompany Erdogan on visit to Gaza

Egypt’s President Morsi might join Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on his visit to the Gaza Strip later this month. The claim has been made by Turkish writer and researcher Zahid Gul, who is close to the government in Turkey.

Gul told the radio programme Galset Samar that senior sources hinted to him that this has been discussed at the highest levels in both countries. He noted that Erdogan’s visit to the besieged Palestinian territory is politics “par excellence”; the prime minister will not only lend moral support to the people of Gaza but also unveil a number of Turkish-funded projects there.

Turkey, added Gul, is pushing for an end to the siege and the opening of all border crossings into Gaza without any restrictions.

The Minister of Religious Endowments in the Gaza Strip, Dr Ismail Radwan, said recently that the government is expecting a number of “high ranking” visitors in the coming weeks but declined to name them.
