Al-Nahda's declaration on the putschist massacres in Egypt

February 8, 2014 at 2:48 am

The Al-Nahda party in Tunis have released a statement about the massacre of protestors this morning outside the Republican Guard in Cairo.

“Early this morning putschist forces committed a massacre against peaceful protesters supporting the legitimate President Mohamed Morsi as they engaged in their dawn prayers. Victims of the massacre exceed 50 martyrs and hundreds of injuries.”

Written by Al-Nahda’s President Rashid Ghannouchi, the statement pledged to pray for the souls of martyrs and condemned the crime committed by the Egyptian security services against unarmed civilians.

The declaration points out that the resolve of putschists is to “abrogate the democratic legitimacy embodied in President Mohamed Morsi,” which will only isolate them.

It calls on Egyptian national forces to “reject the coup and support the pro-democratic legitimacy front,” choose dialogue and the prevention of bloodshed and for “freedom-loving people around the world to stand in solidarity with the Egyptian people in its defence of legitimacy and democracy.”
