Moral fibres of Israel are in shreds, says pro-life group

The national director of pro-life group Be’ad Chaim has said that Israel’s moral fibres are “in shreds” with the government decision to offer free abortions for almost all women. Sandy Shoshani condemned the government’s move, saying that it is a reflection of Israel’s “moral and spiritual degeneration”.

According to a report by Israeli website LifeSiteNews.com, a government committee agreed recently to extend funding for abortions for women aged between 20 and 33 years of age. Around $4.5 million has been allocated to pay for the expected extra 6,300 abortions. “Previously,” said reporter Thaddeus Baklinski, “abortion was covered for women under the age of 19 and over the age of 40.” In Israel, minors under the age of 18 do not need parental consent for an abortion.

Be’ad Chaim, which means “pro-life” in Hebrew, claims that 98 per cent of abortion applications are approved by the government-regulated abortion committee. It points out that around 20,000 abortions a year are carried out in Israel, much more than official statistics claim. “One child in every four conceived in Israel is aborted,” wrote Baklinski, with illegal, private abortions not covered by government figures.

Although Be’ad Chaim wrote to every Knesset member, no one is actually doing anything, lamented Shoshani. “Ultimately,” she added, “there is really not much we can do besides put this matter and our leaders before the Lord.”
