Kuwaitis to spend more than 200 million pounds during New Year's holiday

Kuwaitis’ spending habits are considered to be among the highest worldwide. During the New Year holiday alone, approximately 100,000 Kuwaitis are going abroad to spend their four-day holiday either in Makkah for Umrah, in Dubai or in their most beloved destination, London. Their spending during that period is estimated to reach $315 million.

The head of the Holidays Office at Kuwait Airways Corporation, Khalaf Al-Mana, confirmed what was published by Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Rai: countries interested in tourism, as well as tourism companies, are working hard to attract tourists from the Gulf, and particularly those from Kuwait.

Al-Mana added that more than 100,000 citizens are leaving Kuwait during the New Year holiday, both through the mainland to Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, or by air to relatively distant countries in Europe and East Asia.

The general director of the company Malik for Travel and Tourism, Montaser Khalil, estimates that Kuwaitis’ spending during the holiday period would likely be between 60 and 90 million dinars, which is equivalent to about $315 million, or more than 200 million pounds. The amount of money each Kuwaiti spends ranges anywhere from 200 dinars to 2,000 dinars.
