Syria threatens Jordan if the Kingdom's territories are used to strike Syria

February 12, 2014 at 3:34 pm

Syria’s Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad threatened to “attack Jordan and Turkey in the event they took part in any American-led military action against Syria.”

Mekdad said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal that, “Syria will retaliate not only against Israel, but also against Jordan and Turkey if they took part in any US-led operation” against his country.

He warned, “If war broke out no one can control what will happen,” adding: “We believe that any attack against Syria will inevitably result in chaos in the entire region, if not beyond that. The military action will strengthen Al-Qaeda affiliated extremist factions and not the moderate opposition, which the United States supports.”

Mekdad added that, “Jordan and Turkey, the US allies in the region, should think twice before participating. If the attack against Syria is initiated from Jordan, the Kingdom will suffer.”
