On Sunday, January 15th, the Central West Bank Municipality of al-Bireh in conjunction with the Centre for Happy Childhood observed the anniversary of Palestinian Martyr’s Day which is commemorated on the 7th of January every year. The event was attended by official and popular representatives of al-Bireh Municipality and its suburbs including the Speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council, Dr Aziz Dweik, and Jerusalem Deputy, Ahmed Atwan.

In a speech delivered on behalf of the families of martyrs, Dweik called on the Palestinian Authority to halt the Palestinian-Israeli meetings in the Jordanian capital, Amman. It stressed that it was unreasonable for the Authority to shake hands with those responsible for the killing of thousands of Palestinians.

The families also appealed to the various Palestinian factions to ensure internal reconciliation and safeguard the Palestinian Cause, for which their children had sacrificed.

Dr Dweik confirmed the need to protect the rights of the families of martyrs. He also stressed that rather than negotiating with the Israeli leadership, there was an urgent need to transfer them to the International Criminal Courts for the crimes they have committed against the Palestinian people.
