Israel establishes new police unit against Negev Palestinians

February 17, 2014 at 11:16 pm

An Arab member of the Knesset (Israeli parliament) has revealed that the government has approved the establishment of a special police unit of around 200 officers in the Negev Desert. Muhammad Baraka said that the establishment of this new police unit is to help enforce the displacement of Arab residents in the region.

“The displacement programme,” he said, “is a prelude to the declaration of war against the people of the Negev.”

The MK explained further that, “The Israeli government is still dealing with the Arabs as if we are in a war zone and not under the cloak of citizenship where private property is respected, as is the right to develop that property.”
