A Palestinian human rights organization has said that a few days ago, the managing authority of Israeli jails began a wide scale transfer campaign among prisoners, particularly in Megiddo, Gilboa, Be’er Sheva, and Shata prisons. In light of this campaign, dozens of prisoners have been moved to different prisons.
In a written statement, the Organization for Palestinian Prisoners has indicated that this campaign coincides with another one in which prisoners are being exposed to heightened harassment and repression. These campaigns are unprecedented moves designed to break the will of prisoners and create a state of confusion and psychological instability within the prisons. Both campaigns were launched at a time when the prisoners’ movement has begun to regain its unity and strength within prisons to confront the continuous attacks that have long been meted out against them and which target the majority of prisons.
The Organization for Palestinian Prisoners appealed to humanitarian institutions, human rights organizations and the media to “highlight these abuses, and to intervene to stop such actions that are contrary to the most basic human values.”
