Israel stops the wife of a former prisoner from travelling to meet him in exile

Israel has stopped the wife of one of the prisoners released in the exchange deal and sent into exile in Qatar from travelling to meet him. The wife of Abdul Hakim Aziz Hanini was prevented by the Israelis from crossing from the occupied West Bank into Jordan so that she could go on from there to meet her husband.

According to the International Solidarity Foundation, the incident happened on Wednesday when Mrs. Hanini left her village of Beit Dajan near Nablus and tried to go to Jordan via the Karama Bridge border post. Her husband has been in prison for 18 years, so Mrs Hanini was understandably very upset; the Israelis, she complained, “have ruined my happiness”. She added that she was with her husband’s parents and her own three children at the time; they were all allowed to continue but she was stopped at the border.

Mrs Hanini called on human rights and legal organisations to “stand by the families of the 41 released prisoners who have been exiled outside the Occupied Palestinian Territories, and help them to meet their husbands.”
