February 28, 2014 at 11:07 am

Director of the Gaza-based Al Mezan Centre for Human Rights, Essam Yunis, welcomed the decision of the Human Rights Council to adopt the report of the UN inquiry led by Judge Richard Goldstone into Israel’s conduct during its war on Gaza. The report accuses Israel of committing war crimes which may even constitute genocide. 25 member countries of the Council voted in favour of the report yesterday and its recommendations while 6 voted against and 11 abstained.

Yunis expressed appreciation to all the supporting countries and civil society bodies and international human rights organizations for their efforts in support of the report.

He said adoption must be followed by efforts to ensure the report is transferred to other relevant international forums such as the General Assembly and International Criminal Court clearing the way for the attainment of justice for the victims through indictment of the Israeli war criminals.
