UNRWA denies its officials have left the Gaza Strip

The spokesperson for the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in the Gaza Strip, Adnan Abu Hasna, denied on Thursday afternoon that any of UNRWA’s foreign officials or employees had been evacuated from the Gaza Strip.

Rumours have been going around about the departure of UNRWA’s foreign officials in Gaza following the Israeli occupation’s recent escalation of attacks.

Abu Hasna told Safe news agency that agency officials usually spend their weekends in the city of Jerusalem or the West Bank, and they always leave the Gaza Strip on Thursdays.

But he clarified that: “On the contrary, in case of crisis, UNRWA calls its officials to be present on the ground for the management of relief operations.”

Rumours about UNRWA’s foreign officials leaving the Gaza Strip at the request of Israel often accompany each new round of escalation by Israeli forces.

Meanwhile, the Israeli mini ministerial council for political and security affairs is holding an emergency meeting to discuss the recent escalation in the Gaza Strip after the resistance factions started firing dozens of rockets and missiles at the cities and settlements in the south of Israel in response to Israeli airstrikes that killed three Palestinians on Tuesday.
