Libya: US embassy employee flees from abductors

April 18, 2014 at 10:14 am

A female Libyan employee at the US embassy in Tripoli was able to flee from her kidnappers on Tuesday after being held on Monday.

The employee has been transferred to a hospital to receive treatment for injuries she sustained while fleeing, the embassy told the press.

The US ambassador visited the employee in hospital yesterday.

According to a Libyan security source, the employee has been abducted after an armed attempt to rob her car. She has been shot but her life is not in danger.

On Tuesday, the Jordanian ambassador in Tripoli has also been abducted and his driver was injured in a similar attack.

Diplomatic missions have been the target of abductions and armed attacks since the ouster of the Libyan dictator Muammar Qadhafi in 2011.
