Libya: Haftar's aircrafts continue to bombard the vicinity of Benghazi

June 17, 2014 at 9:59 am

Aircrafts belonging to the retired Libyan general, Khalifa Haftar, bombed the Tika district west of Benghazi on Monday.

Meanwhile, Libyan judiciary is reviewing the appeal filed by the fugitive Prime Minister Ali Zaidan who questions the legality of the parliament session that led to his sacking.

A spokesperson of Haftar’s forces, Mohamed al-Hijazy, said that an airstrip believed to be used by Haftar’s opponents in the district has been targeted as a precautionary measure. In the same context, Al-Hijazy denied that one of Haftar’s aircrafts has been hit by Benghazi militants following reports by the “Benghazi Revolutionaries” that an aircraft had been hit on Sunday during battles which led to 11 fatalities and 28 injured from the two sides.

The Libyan Appeals Court has turned down an appeal by the sacked Prime Minister Zaidan citing lack of jurisdiction. Zaidan demanded in the appeal his reinstatement as prime minister, citing false procedures by the parliament in the session which led to his ouster.
