Israel’s military operation in Hebron launched last Friday to search for three missing settlers has cost its economy around NIS 2billion, experts have claimed. The main reason, they believe, is that Palestinian workers have been banned from leaving the occupied West Bank, mainly around Hebron, to work in Israel.
“Israeli employers have complained about the massive losses in the agricultural sector after Palestinian workers were banned from travelling to work,” the local Palestinian news agency Quds Net reported. The same experts quoted by the media have said that Israeli security measures against the Palestinians will also lead to massive losses in the construction sector.
Agriculture and construction are important for Israel and losses in both sectors will be an economic disaster. Farmers in the south of Israel are the most affected by the ongoing military operation.
