Dozens of female Palestinian students in the Deir Abu Mashaal School, located west of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, suffered from breathing problems after Israeli military forces fired tear gas on Monday afternoon, according to eyewitnesses.
The witnesses told Anadolu news agency’s correspondent that Israeli military forces stormed the town and fired tear gas towards the school unprovoked, leading many students to develop breathing difficulties and eventually seek treatment at the local health centre.
The witnesses said that the gas canisters landed inside the school grounds.
They added that the Israeli occupation forces also stormed the town, arresting a number of young men and checking the identity cards of others.
From time to time, the town has witnessed raids and search operations carried out by the Israeli military forces, under the pretext of chasing protesters accused of throwing stones at Israeli settlers’ vehicles on the main road that passes near the town.
A state of tension has dominated the West Bank and occupied Jerusalem in recent months. Israel continues its operations to repress and arrest Palestinian protesters, meanwhile allowing right-wing settlers to storm Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The worst incident occurred when a young Jerusalemite attempted to kill an extremist rabbi in Jerusalem and was subsequently killed by Israeli forces.
