The two main Sunni and Shia Lebanese parties have reached a “serious” development in their bilateral dialogue aimed at decreasing sectarian tensions in the country, they said in a joint statement yesterday.

According to the statement, the Future Movement and Hezbollah held the second session of talks in the parliament headquarters in Beirut, both sides agreed to continue the implementation of the security plan across Lebanon.

In the middle of the last year, the Lebanese government approved a security plan that included the redeployment of the army and the security forces across the country.

The first session of talks was held on December 23, when both sides reiterated the importance of starting a “serious” and “responsible” dialogue regarding all issues.

The Lebanese parliament failed to choose a new president after Michel Suleiman’s term ended in May.
