Well-known Egyptian activist, former candidate for Egypt’s presidential elections, and leader of the Ghad El-Thawra Party, Ayman Nour stated that the new leak from Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi’s office, broadcasted by Mekameleen TV, proves that two crimes were committed and that Al-Sisi should be imprisoned for them. The first crime is the forgery of official documents and the second is the use of a government office for election propaganda.
In his statements made exclusively to Arabi21, Nour said that the scandal involving journalists taking orders from security officers is not the most important issue revealed in the leak. The most important matter is that it is complete and sufficient evidence confirming that Al-Sisi committed two crimes. The first crime is the forgery of official documents, which is a criminal act punishable by Egyptian law with imprisonment ranging from five to 15 years. The second crime committed by Al-Sisi is using a government office, i.e. the Minister of Defence’s office, for election propaganda, which violated the law of the elections in which he won presidency.
Nour explained to Arabi21 that “General Abbas Kamel admitted, during a phone call with Ahmed Ali, that the presidential candidate Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi’s place of residency that was publically announced was not his true place of residency when he referred to the address 6 El Khalifa El Maamoun St. This means that Al-Sisi forged official documents and that the Egyptian judiciary must take action to prosecute him.”
In addition to this, Nour, who was nominated for Egypt’s presidential elections twice (in 2005 and 2012), stressed that the candidate must sign a document in which he verifies that all the information in his file is true and that he is legally responsible if at any time this information is found to be false. Al-Sisi signed this paper in accordance with the law and he must now be held accountable.
Nour also noted: “The presidential candidate Hazem Salah Abu Ismail is currently serving 10 years in prison due to the fact that he submitted a formal document, when he was a presidential candidate, that was later proven to be false. So, what about the fact that official, not even formal, documents submitted by Al-Sisi were found to contain false and forged information?”
With regards to the scandal involving the journalists, which was mentioned in the leak, Nour stated: “Influence over the media has reached a new phase. This is the first time we have heard that daily orders are given to journalists.” He also noted that the media in Mubarak’s time suffered from a list of restrictions and red lines, but nothing was dictated to the journalists.
He added: “Al-Sisi has succeeded in turning the media into a “parrot media”. They all repeat what he dictates to them. Today’s leak indicates the demolition of another of Egypt’s institutions; the media institution.”
