Egypt’s Mekameleen TV channel created the hashtag “Sisi loots Gulf” in parallel with an audio leak of President Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi and senior aides being derisive of their rich Gulf donors.

The hashtag became instantly popular on social networking sites including Facebook and Twitter.

One activist wrote: “Is it not enough that #Sisi_loots_Gulf… Oh, right they are half nations and have loads of money.”

Ramadan Al-Badri wrote: “God willing this will be the last leak, before his coup collapses #Sisi_loots_Gulf.”

Aya Imad wrote: “I wonder how many people will die to cover up the leaked audio #Sisi_loots_Gulf.”

Mohammed Ahmed said: “For those who pay their lives to cover up the leaks, I pray to God this leak won’t be hard on them #Sisi_loots_Gulf,” adding: “although Sisi loots Gulf countries, they cannot say no!”

Tamer Harb wrote: “They steal the aid donated to the poor Egyptian people #Sisi_loots_Gulf.” While Abboud Syed said: “#Sisi_loots_Gulf as long as there are peoples who accept to live as slaves, there will be half-men who control the country’s wealth and there is no need for such leaks.”

Last night, the channel released a new leaked audio from Al-Sisi’s office during his term as defence minister with the hashtag #Sisi_loots_Gulf.

In the audio recording, Al-Sisi’s office manager General Abbas Kamel, Assistant Chief of Staff General Ahmed Abdel Halim and the former military spokesman Ahmed Ali are heard discussing the amount of aid offered by Gulf countries to Egypt.
