Spain ready to join Muslim countries to confront terrorism

Spain is ready for military, judiciary and intelligence cooperation with Muslim countries to confront terrorism, the Anadolu Agency reported the country's prime minister as saying.

Mariano Rajoy Brey told members of his ruling People Party yesterday: "When you think about the recent events that befell Europe, we must also think that Islamic countries have suffered too from violent terrorist events and we must strive together to create areas of development and prosperity."

"There is no conflict between religions but there is a conflict between civilisation and brutal violence," he said without giving more details about the proposed cooperation with the Islamic world.

European countries were on high security alert following an attack on French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo which published images of Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) followed by three other attacks in the following three days resulted in the killing of 17 people including three attackers.
