Reshet Bet: PA officials spent more than half the year abroad

June 29, 2015 at 3:16 pm

Palestinian Authority officials spent half of the year travelling in spite of the economic hardships they face, an Israeli radio network revealed.

High flyers:

  • PA President Mahmoud Abbas
  • Member of the Fatah Central Committee Jibril Rajoub
  • Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat
  • PLO’s Executive Committee Yasser Abed Rabbo
  • Fatah Central Committee member Nabil Shaath
  • Former Prime Minister Salam Fayyad, who travelled on a personal capacity

Under the title “Boycott Flying” the website of Israeli radio network Reshet Bet ran a story which revealed that senior Palestinian figures travelled despite financial hardships, adding that while some of these trips were official visits, others were private trips.

Citing the example of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Reshet Bet said he spent 188 days abroad in 2012, 166 days in 2013, 150 days last year and nearly three months away since the beginning of 2015.

Media experts believe that the report is part of a campaign to incite against the Palestinian leadership amid the PA’s moves to try Israel at the International Criminal Court.
