At least 21 civilians have been killed and 24 others injured by several barrel bombs dropped by Iraqi government warplanes on residential areas in the city of Fallujah, Turkey’s Anadolu news agency reported on Tuesday.
Medical sources said that the casualties included a number of women and children. The wounded were taken to the city’s main hospital.
Eyewitnesses in Fallujah confirmed to Anadolu that the barrel bombs caused massive devastation. It is expected that more bodies will be found under the rubble of homes and buildings which have been destroyed.
In a related development, Colonel Walid Al-Dulaimi of the Iraqi army told Anadolu that 15 ISIS militants were killed when US-led coalition forces targeted a mosque in central Ramadi with airstrikes. “Another 10 militants were killed in a second round of airstrikes that targeted the Al-Tash area south of Ramadi,” he added. “Military operations to retake the city of Ramadi are continuing and security forces are advancing towards Saqlawiyah, north-west of Fallujah and Khalidiya Island, east of Anbar.”
The police chief in Anbar announced that the coalition has launched more than 20 sorties against 60 ISIS sites in Anbar province, killing 30 militants and wounding dozens more.
