Pro-Sisi newspaper claims ‘Obama has a plan to bring down’ Egyptian president

The Egyptian media have continued to feed on a theory that the US and Britain are conspiring against the Sisi regime. The most recent manifestation was in Al-Dustur on Monday. “Obama’s plan to bring down Sisi,” it trumpeted.

The newspaper claimed that Russia has handed Egypt a report, allegedly adopted by the CIA, about a plot to bring down the Sisi regime. The report recommends stirring-up sedition between the army and the people before the end of this year.

“In a resounding surprise,” said the newspaper, “Russia has uncovered a secret American report that, for the second time, exposes Obama’s plan to embroil the Egyptian army in a civil war with the Egyptian people and seek to stir up sedition with the aim of bringing down President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.”

The newspaper added that the US report stated explicitly that if the Egyptians did not find the justification and the reason for killing each other, Washington would have to find that reason.

The main American objective, it is alleged, is to avoid the possibility of having another Gamal Abdel Nasser in the region. “This time Sisi will be supported by oil rich Gulf States and that was not available to Nasser.” Such a scenario would not be in the best interest of the United States of America, insists the report. “The popularity of the army in Egypt and the popularity of Sisi are no longer restricted to Egypt but have gone way beyond it, with his rising popularity in the Gulf States.”

According to Al-Dustur, the report went on to say that if this happens, US influence will be undermined in an unprecedented manner across the entire region. The Gulf States provide Sisi with support because they believe that the Muslim Brotherhood is a threat to the region’s dictators and kings; if those regimes are removed, America will lose many friends across the Middle East.

The report concluded by stressing the need to reduce the capabilities of the Arab armies, especially in Egypt and Saudi Arabia. Civil war in Egypt will do the job there, it is said, while Saudi may need to be goaded into a war with Iran. The report also claimed, Al-Dustur reported, that Saudi Arabia will fragment within two years, and both Bahrain and Yemen will fall into Iranian hands.

Unusually, quoting the US report Al-Dustur called attention to the fact that Sisi is working with Israel in order to rid Sinai of the terrorists and that the Egyptian army has succeeded in removing around 1,200 smuggling tunnels in the border area with Gaza which, it is claimed, also threaten Israel.

It is worth noting that Al-Dustur is owned by a Coptic Christian businessman called Rida Daud. It did not name the source of its information nor did it refer to the origin of the alleged report or its title or how it managed to get hold of a copy. The paper did not even publish an image of the report’s cover to give the article some credibility.
