Syrian regime forces have been reported as expanding their ground operations on Thursday in the Bayırbucak Turkmen area of the rural town of Latakia.

Turkey’s Anadolu news agency reported local sources as saying that regime forces, with the support of Russian air strikes, conducted simultaneous attacks on the Fırınlık, Acısı, and Avanlı regions of the Turkmen mountain area near the border city of Kasab.

The source said the attacks targeted civilian Turkmen villages as well as armed opposition fighters. Anadolu also reported hearing explosions coming from the border town of Yayladağı in Turkey’s Hatay province.

Syrian regime forces launched ground offensive into the southern villages of Gimam three days ago.

Meanwhile, the Turkish Red Crescent delivered two loads of humanitarian aid to the Bayırbucak Turkmen area, including food, medical supplies, clothes, blankets and school supplies.

The aid distribution official on the Syrian side, Mohammed Komarja, said the supplies will be distributed to civilians and schools in the region.
