Palestinian Legislative Council member Khalida Jarrar was handed a 15 month jail term by an Israeli court yesterday.
“After seven and a half months and 25 trial sessions, the [Israeli] occupation’s Ofer court sentenced Khalida Jarrar, a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council representing the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), to 15 months in jail,” Ghassan Jarrar, the jailed member of parliament’s husband, told the Anadolu Agency.
“The military court convicted Jarrar of “incitement” and of being a member of the PFLP,” he said.
In May, an Israeli court accused Jarrar of having committed 12 “security offenses” including being a member of the banned PFLP, which Israel considers a “terrorist” organisation.
The court further accused her of encouraging the abduction of Israeli soldiers to be used as bargaining chips for the release of jailed Palestinians.
On 2 April, Israeli soldiers arrested Jarrar after raiding her home in the West Bank city of Ramallah.
Last year, an Israeli court ordered Jarrar’s expulsion from Ramallah to the West Bank city of Jericho on grounds that she posed a “threat to public security”.
