Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu yesterday named Yossi Cohen as head of Mossad replacing Tamir Pardo, whose term ends in January, Israeli media reported.
Netanyahu made the announcement during a TV show, putting an end to weeks of speculation over who would succeed Pardo, who has been in the position for five years.
Since it was established, Mossad has had 11 chiefs – six from within the organisation and five former army generals.
Netanyahu said Cohen has “much experience and many achievements, and a proven ability in a wide range of Mossad activities.”
“He has leadership abilities and professional understanding, which are necessary for the person to lead the organisation [Mossad].”
