The head of the medical equipment department in the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza Abdul-Rahman Murad confirmed yesterday that at least 300 medical sets are out of service across various Gaza hospitals and healthcare centres, QudsNet reported.
In a press statement, Murad said that an increasing number of medical sets are being damaged due to ongoing electricity shortages and electricity interruptions.
Murad also said that the department of medical equipment is in a very difficult situation because the Ministry of Health in Ramallah does not pay running costs, which cover maintenance for the medical equipment, to the department in Gaza.
He said that his department supervise more than 6,000 medical sets across the different hospitals and healthcare centres in Gaza, noting that it is dependent on individual donations in order to function and often doesn’t receive adequate funds.
Meanwhile, Murad said that many sensitive departments such as ICU and cancer wards do not have alternatives for the ailing medical sets, and called on international organisations to move towards solving this problem.
