Nablus Governor calls on Abbas to review PA institutional performance

The governor of the West Bank city of Nablus Akram Rajoub has called on the Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to review the performance of the Authority’s institutions.

Rajoub said Tuesday in a post to his Facebook account: “Our people are being slaughtered, and our enemy does not need any excuse to kill or oppress us. We have been engaged in trifles, and some parties have been violating the dignity of our security institutions as well as our people.”

Rajoub remarked on an incident in Nablus where unknown gunmen drove into the city shooting in the air to express solidarity with Majid Faraj, the head of the Palestinian intelligence service who was harshly criticized for his statement to a Western site about his agency’s efforts in preventing 200 attacks against Israelis. Rajoub asked: “Is this the way to express support through reckless and abusive behaviour?”

“On the personal level, I respect Mr. Faraj but what happened was not in his interest,” said Rajoub.

Rajoub addressed Abbas, saying: “Mr. President, we need to review our performance and hold those who violate the rights of our institutions and those of our people.”
