February 16, 2016 at 12:57 pm

Head of Ennahda Sheikh Rached Ghannouchi said yesterday that his country rejects any military intervention in Libya, reiterating “crises are not resolved by war, but by political and peaceful solutions.”

In an interview with the Anadolu Agency, Ghannouchi said: “Tunis continues to reject war as a means to solve conflicts and political disputes… Wars are followed by disasters.”

“There are contacts with many of the Libyan sides pushing for accepting a solution, taking Tunis as a model,” he said, noting that Ennahda conceded power to protect the country from possible “disasters, wars and clashes”.

Tunisian Defence Minister Farahat Al-Harshani said that the country is carrying out its duty to protect its southern borders with Libya, noting there is a “complete strategy to protect the borders”.

Speaking to journalists, he said: “We said that the only solution is political dialogue among the different Libyan sides and establishing a national unity government to control the country and fight terrorism.”
