Russia ‘deliberately’ committing war crimes in Syria

Amnesty International has accused Russia of committing war crimes “deliberately” in Syria. The attacks against civilians are the most “egregious” in decades, the director of Amnesty’s crisis response programme has told Sky News.

“We have documented strikes on schools, strikes on hospitals and civilian homes,” said Tirana Hassan. Such strikes are in themselves war crimes, she claimed. However, the Russian fighters target civilian areas and then strike them again when civilians and humanitarian workers are evacuating the wounded and dead.

It is reported consistently that there are second bombardments, explained Hassan, which are then injuring and killing those who are going in to help the initial victims.

According to the Amnesty official, the Russians have destroyed 27 schools and 27 healthcare centres in the areas controlled by the moderate opposition in Syria.
